FAQ

Can I sign my child up for more than one camp?

Yes, in fact, we encourage it. Each program is completely different, so your child can enjoy them all without repeating activities! Make sure you pack a lunch if you enroll in both AM and PM camps! Lunch time is 12-1pm.

+

Who are the Mad Science camp instructors?

Mad Science instructors tend to be college students pursuing an education or science degree, former/retired teachers, or teachers on summer break. All of our instructors have experience working with large groups of elementary-aged children and have undergone an extensive background check.

What is the camp schedule? MORNING CAMP

Typically, our camps begin at 9:00am. We spend about 15 minutes discussing the previous days activities, socializing, and checking in. From 9:15-10:15, we do a hands-on science lesson. Then, we break for time outdoors (weather permitting). From 10:45-11:45, we'll do our second lesson. The final 15 minutes are for clean up and check out.

What is the camp schedule? AFTERNOON CAMP

Typically, our camps begin at 1:00pm. We spend about 15 minutes discussing the previous days activities, socializing, and checking in. From 1:15-2:15, we do a hands-on science lesson. Then, we break for time outdoors (weather permitting). From 2:45-3:45, we'll do our second lesson. The final 15 minutes are for clean up and check out.

What is the camp schedule? ALL DAY CAMP

AM camp + lunch + PM camp = ALL DAY CAMP 12:00-1:00pm is lunch and play time at Mad Science! Unless otherwise stated, students at all locations staying for all day camp should bring a nut-free lunch.

Can we bring a snack?

Sure! We break for snack half way through every 3 hour camp session. If campers are staying for just AM or just PM, they should bring* 1 snack. If they are staying all day, they should bring 2 snacks (and a lunch!) *Popcorn and lemonade snack provided at all our lab in Millvale only. Please do not send nut-based products to any camp locations.

+

What's the difference between a flash camp and summer camp?

While both programs are typically about 3 hours long, a flash camp is one day only, while our summer camps are typically over the course of 5 days.

Here's what parents have to say about our camps!

Both of our boys did Mad Science summer camps when they were younger, and loved the experience! It was a very fun and interactive experience for them. And counselor Beth Morrell is the best!!!

My son attended the Earth, Space & Beyond Mad Science Camp last summer and absolutely loved it! The hours were convenient for our family, and the location was close by for us. We're sending him again to a Mad Science camp this upcoming summer. These are well run camps, in our experience, and I recommend them for people looking for a fun, science-based camp experience.

My son participated in a true "camp" with horses, swimming, fishing and hiking and he was MORE excited about this camp than anything else he's done all summer. Great job on your end!
